Programs

The programs

Adults, teens and kids, five days a week. Every program runs on the same rule: drill it, then test it.

Program 01 · Gi

Jiu Jitsu, Gi

The traditional uniform, and the deepest version of the art. The gi slows exchanges down and rewards precision: grips, collars and sleeves become handles, and technique beats strength. This is where fundamentals are built.

For beginners, the gi program is the recommended starting point. No experience, no fitness requirement, no athletic background needed. Loaner gis available for your first classes.

Adults · All levels · Beginner recommended start
Program 02 · No-Gi

Jiu Jitsu, No-Gi

Shorts and a rash guard, no cloth to hold. The pace is faster, the grips are on the body, and the techniques carry directly to a situation where nobody is wearing a uniform. Wrestling and modern grappling live here.

Runs alongside the gi program. Most members train both.

Protocol · Self Defense

Self Defense

The reason this gym exists. Delivered as hands-on seminars built around real-world scenarios: arrest and control techniques, subject control, weapon retention, positional dominance from a standing or grounded fight, and de-escalation under physical pressure.

Grounded in jiu jitsu, informed by wrestling and striking, and taught for the real world rather than the scoreboard. If your work puts you close to conflict, law enforcement, corrections, security, hospital or school staff, tell us on the contact form. Seminars are built around your realities, not a generic curriculum.

Program 04 · Youth

Kids and Teens

Three age-banded youth classes running from day one. Little Ninjas for ages 3 to 5, then Kids BJJ split into 6 to 10 and 11 to 15. Gi on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, no-gi on Tuesday and Thursday. Little Ninjas are always in the gi.

Classes run Monday through Friday afternoons. See the full schedule for times. Homeschool families, see Program 05.

Ages 3 to 15 · Gi and no-gi · Weekday afternoons
Program 05 · Homeschool

Homeschool Program

A midday class for homeschool families, in the gi, at a quieter hour. Same curriculum as the afternoon kids classes, with siblings of different ages training together. It covers PE, and unlike most PE, none of it can be done alone.

The Tap Lab is an approved Step Up For Students provider. Families on the Personalized Education Program can put scholarship funds toward this class.

Meet the professor

Cauatã Samuel, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and head instructor at The Tap Lab

Cauatã Samuel

Black Belt · GFTeam · Head Instructor

Cauatã started training jiu jitsu in Brazil at ten years old under Professor Oscar Amaral. He earned his black belt in 2019 with GFTeam and has spent more than eight years teaching.

He also still competes. Eleven professional MMA fights sit alongside a full record in gi and no-gi jiu jitsu, and that is not a footnote here. It means the material taught on these mats has been pressure tested by the person teaching it.

What he coaches for goes past technique. Discipline, confidence, resilience and a clear head when things get hard are the parts that follow a student off the mats, and for him they are the point of the whole thing.
